Crave Locally’s Take

  • Family-Friendly
  • Dog-Friendly

Dogs welcome on the outdoor patio only.

Lost Rhino is a working brewery and neighborhood gathering place, with its character rooted in Northern Virginia's craft beer story. Instead of vineyard views or open farm acreage, you'll find a social industrial taproom, beer brewed on site, a full kitchen and a patio for an easy afternoon with friends.

The flight is a good starting point for curious drinkers: choose four beers from the current lineup and explore at your own pace. Pinball and live events add energy to a visit, while the food menu makes this a place to stay for lunch or dinner rather than just one pour.

Families can visit, but this is a brewery and restaurant rather than a children's activity destination. Dogs are welcome on the patio only, and the bookable Crave Locally flight is an adults-only indoor experience where pets cannot join. For a laptop day, the social noise and limited charging access make it a less dependable choice than a quiet workspace.

The people behind it

Matt Hagerman and Favio Garcia drew on experience at Old Dominion Brewing Company to establish Lost Rhino. Their background connects the brewery to an earlier chapter of Northern Virginia craft brewing and to a hands-on approach to production.

The story behind the name

Lost Rhino began brewing in 2011, giving equipment from the former Old Dominion operation a new home in Ashburn. Its name draws on "rhino chaser," a surfing expression associated with seeking big waves, and reflects a willingness to explore beyond the obvious route.

The brewing program

A 25-barrel brewhouse and rotating tap list connect established styles with seasonal releases, from IPAs and pilsners to sours and stouts, alongside non-alcoholic beer and other drinks.

The spaces

The single-level industrial taproom has an open layout, indoor seating, a pinball room and an outdoor patio with picnic tables, shade, covered seating and fire pits. This is a production brewery in Ashburn rather than a rural estate — come for the beer and the atmosphere, not mountain views.

The entrance, indoor seating and restrooms are wheelchair accessible; contact the brewery about a specific setup or event.
